While our perfect weather inspires activity and adventure, it\u2019s not always safe for our pets. It\u2019s also crucial to know the warning signs of heatstroke and the ways to stabilize a pet\u2019s rising internal temperature.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Warning Signs of Pet Heatstroke<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The act of panting aims to cool an animal down by evaporating water from the nose and lungs. This, when paired with sweating from the paw pads, can help to regulate a pet\u2019s internal body temperature, but when it\u2019s t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shilohsvet.com\/blog\/?s=heat+stroke\">oo warm and sunny<\/a> (and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shilohsvet.com\/blog\/party-animals-keeping-pets-safe-and-happy-during-summer-parties\/\">pet is working too hard<\/a>), dehydration and heatstroke can quickly threaten a pet\u2019s health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hyperthermia, or overheating, is characterized by the following signs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dry nose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uncontrollable or excessive panting (especially without exertion)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drooling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fever<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lethargy or agitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dizziness\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Racing pulse<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bright red gums and tongue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Muscle tremors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vomiting or diarrhea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply being outside without little to no shade or air circulation can cause the above symptoms, and are certainly made worse without adequate drinking water. Without quick intervention, heatstroke in pets can lead to seizures, collapse, and death.
